What it actually does
The direction is in the name: J1772 to NACS means from a J1772 charging source to a NACS car. One end sockets onto a standard J1772 plug; the other presents a NACS (Tesla-style) connector to your car. That lets a Tesla, or a 2025-and-later car with a built-in NACS port (from Hyundai, Kia, Ford, GM, Rivian and others), draw AC power from the millions of J1772 chargers already installed. For a NACS-port owner, it is the cheapest way to multiply the places you can charge.
The UL 2251 certification
This is the reason to pick the LENZ over a no-name alternative. It explicitly names UL 2251— the safety standard written for EV connectors and adapters — rather than gesturing vaguely at being "certified." On a passive part that carries the entire charging current for hours, that named listing is exactly the spec you should not skip. It is rated to a high 80-amp ceiling too, well above any home circuit, so it is never the bottleneck on speed.
AC only, and one direction
Two limits to understand. First, it is AC only — it does not change what DC fast chargers your car can use; NACS-port cars already use compatible DC networks natively, so this is purely about opening up J1772 Level 2 charging. Second, it points one way: it is for a NACS-port car using a J1772 charger, not a J1772 car trying to use a Tesla-style charger.

Build, fit and everyday use
It is small enough to live in the frunk or glovebox, which is the point — you keep it with you for the J1772 charger you did not plan for. As with any adapter, confirm it seats firmly at both ends and stop using it if it ever runs hot or fits loosely. The UL 2251 listing is what certifies it for the continuous load; that, plus a snug fit, is all that matters on a part this simple.
