Charging a Chevy Equinox EV at Home
GM's value crossover charges over J1772 at home and accepts a healthy AC rate — here is the charger that keeps up without overspending.

The Chevy Equinox EV charges at home over a J1772 inlet at up to about 11.5 kW, so a 48-amp Level 2 chargerlets it draw its full AC speed. No adapter is needed at home. GM is transitioning to NACS for Supercharger access, but that is a road-trip DC accessory — it does not change your garage setup.
The Equinox EV is GM's value play, and its home charging is refreshingly simple: a standard J1772 charger, matched to the car's roughly 11.5 kW onboard limit. Confirm your trim, because AC rates can vary, and buy the amperage the car can actually use.
The connector: J1772 at home
Every Equinox EV uses a J1772/CCS1inlet, so home charging is plain J1772 with no adapter — any standard Level 2 unit works. GM has committed to the NACS standard and provides a DC adapter so Ultium cars can use Tesla Superchargers, but that adapter is for DC fast charging on the road, not the AC charger at home.
What amperage to buy
With an onboard charger around 11.5 kW, a 48-amp chargeron a 60-amp circuit reaches the car's AC ceiling. A 40-amp unit like the Emporia Level 2 on a NEMA 14-50 outlet still refills the car overnight for normal driving and is the easier install. Size the circuit with the wire size and breaker guide.
On the road
For trips, the Equinox EV uses the CCS network directly and Tesla Superchargers with GM's NACS DC adapter. Our DC fast charging explainer and how to find charging stations guide cover planning. A portable charger is a smart backup for a home without a fixed unit.
