Charging a Nissan Ariya at Home
Nissan dropped CHAdeMO for the Ariya — it charges over J1772 at home, and a modest onboard rate means a value charger is plenty.

The Nissan Ariya charges at home over a J1772inlet — and the headline for Leaf owners is that Nissan dropped CHAdeMO for the Ariya, moving to the mainstream J1772/CCS1 standard. Its onboard charger is around 7.2 kW, so a 40-amp charger has ample headroom and a 32-amp unit is nearly all it can use.
If you came from a Leaf, this is good news: no more oddball CHAdeMO connector on fast chargers, and plain J1772 at home. The Ariya's modest AC rate also means you do not need the biggest, most expensive charger — a solid value unit keeps up.
The connector: J1772 at home, CCS for fast charging
The Ariya uses a J1772/CCS1inlet. Home charging is plain J1772 with no adapter, and DC fast charging is CCS — a full break from the Leaf's CHAdeMO. Nissan has signaled a move to NACS on future cars, which would add a DC adapter for Superchargers, but that does not change home AC charging.
What amperage to buy
With an onboard charger around 7.2 kW, a 40-amp charger gives the Ariya headroom, and a value unit like the Emporia Level 2is a natural fit. A 48-amp unit is overkill — the car cannot draw that much over AC. A plug-in Evdance portable on a NEMA 14-50 outlet is a tidy alternative. Confirm the circuit with the wire size and breaker guide.
